Sent down a Salt Mine!

Training with Weißwurst

In August 2018 I had the pleasure of attending a training session at EuRec Environmental Technology’s headquarters at Merkers (Krayenberggemeinde) in Thüringen.

Having used a mobile EuRec shredder while still at ‘Smiles’, I was used to the basic functions of the machine, but that was an elderly unit and it was good to meet the guys who designed and built the new models.

It’s invaluable, getting to know the technicians, project managers, service people and administrators in partner companies. For a freelancer like me, it is essential because I don’t know the structures or the culture of the company. It doesn’t make shortcuts, just smoother and more efficient communications.

Whilst in the area I had the opportunity to visit the Erlebnisbergwerk salt mine where looted treasures had been stored under the NSDAP regime. The safety rigmarole and the rapid drop in the hoisting cage, combined with the history, geology and laser show make it a truly “Grand Day Out!”
